PLR SHOW 7 FEAT HANDS SOLO

Many Thanks to Hands Solo for his Paradise Loft Radio exclusive Mixtape. A little over half an hour of very tidy mixes and flowing selections recorded purely from record.

The tracks on this mix were produced in America minus Cheri (Canada) and Time Bandits (Holland). A little fact about Nu Shooz who were from Portland, Oregon was that they were a Husband and Wife Duo. Nu Shooz Struggled terribly to get radio air play on their single "I Can't Wait", off the album "Poolside". It fizzled on its first release but a copy found its way to Holland where a remix the *"Dutch Mix" by Peter Slaghuis was made and then exported to the US on the Dutch label, Injection. The remix was noticed by Atlantic records. They ended up getting signed to Atlantic in January 1986. "I Can't Wait" was produced in 1984.

Thankyou once again for listening in. Next week Miles G and Pony Boy will be back with plenty more soul sounds. Any questions or information you would like to share please feel free to contact us at olivercgraham(at)hotmail.com.

Stay smilin and see you on the dancefloor!

PLR ITALIANS OCCASIONALLY DO IT BETTER

Paradise Loft Radio

Italo Disco was a genre that began in the late 1970’s and peaked in popularity during the 80’s. The unique Italo sound came from electronic keyboard synthesizers, mesmerising robotic drum patterns and melodic loops.

In it’s beginnings, it was a sound that was very unique in comparison to what was heard from the USA, UK and other parts of Europe at the time. This didn’t stop the style being embraced internationally, with Kano’s I’m Ready making it to number 21 on the US ‘Black Singles’ chart in 1981. The song was produced by Stefano Pulga and Luciano Ninzatti, two men who were largely responsible for the exported Italo sound. Many of their productions (including the Larry Levan remixed First True Love Affair by Jimmy Ross) featured heavily through the speakers of influential NYC nightclubs.

Patrick Cowley (Megatron Man) and Bobby Orlando (West End Girls) were two American producers who embraced the Italo sound in their music. In America, this sound was known as High NRG but the ties to Italo were undeniable. Cowley consolidated Americas interest in High NRG, and the scene in San Francisco acted as an incubator for the growth of this Italo influenced sub genre.

Italo Disco is a mysterious genre. The influence it silently had over music internationally, makes the lack of knowledge worldwide today very intriguing. When you listen you can see the umbrella bobbing in your cocktail glass or feel as though you are driving in a car chase, with the surging bass line propelling you along. For me Italo is full of imagery. It offers a direct time portal to the ‘perceived future’ in a positive light.

Please enjoy this selection in all its flamboyant, emotional, camp glory and pass it along. Give the gift of music, stay smiling and see you on the dance floor! Please note that not all of the songs on this mix are from Italy - going to show that Italians only occasionally do it better.

PARADISE LOFT RADIO TAKING OVER THE AIRWAVES

The name Paradise Loft is an amalgamation of Paradise Garage and  the Loft. They were the names of two of the most influential New York Nightclubs of the 70's/80's that housed the birth of dance music as we know it today.

The two clubs were completely focused on music. Paradise Garage was a real party where people went to dance themselves good, where as The Loft was much more spiritual and intimate. They were both places of excess, refuge, liberation, spirituality, release and we truly wish we had been able to be a part of them. Listen in and hear influences in our selections from these two meccas of the night.

Paradise Loft radio is the story of two brothers, their love of soul music and a strong desire to share it with the world. With very different tastes in music they have found common ground on certain cross over genres. This has allowed each of them to learn about new grooves.

Miles G is an old hand in the Radio game and has held residencies at two radio stations spanning years. He has an amazing ear for for jazz and funk fusion while still bringing a lot of late 70's, early 80's disco grooves. Miles' selections are always a little to the left which is great for the diversity of the program. Expect to hear new tunes to have you all over Discogs!

Pony Boy comes from the DJ background and has been collecting records for the last eight years. While living in England he made a point of using his time wisely and acquired many oddities that he brings to the program. In more recent times Pony Boy has been involved the production of music. August, 2012 saw the release of Flip The Coin by Freekwency where Pony Boy wrote the song and was also responsible for the vocals. Pony Boy will be bringing the DJ approach to the show with blends, mixes and lots of 12 inch selections!

There will be guests from time to time sharing a little piece of their collection. A brother from the same Mother, DJ Hands Solo will be joining us on the reg before he splits over to New York to get to the bottom of all this Disco business! We'd also like to thank him for his handy work on the Paradise Loft Logo. (Re-worked for Paradise Loft Radio by a special guest... website here)

We are true believers in Vinyl and play only Vinyl. (unless we are forwarded new works only available as an mp3) Through this we can tell a tale about how these records were acquired and the wild stories attached to the journey called record collecting.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We will endevour to have track lists available from each show online for you closely following the ending of a program.

First show will be avaliable for download shortly.
